There are positive vibes coming from the OMG Racing garage ahead of the Oulton Park meeting for round three of the Bennetts British Superbike championship. Both riders Gino Rea and Ben Luxton are looking forward to the challenge of the undulating rollercoaster that is Oulton Park.
For Gino Rea, the Oulton Park Circuit is a new challenge on a Superbike machine; the Londoner of Italian origins has a point-scoring placing firmly within his sights.
“I am looking forward to Oulton Park, the track is a real challenge to learn but the test day was productive, so we have a better base setting now coming into the race weekend. In my view, Oulton is probably the toughest track in the UK to learn but fun once you get your head around it. During the test, we learnt a lot about the bike and we are all relatively happy as my speed was good, especially considering it was my first time at the track. We aim to build on our data from the test and really kick-start our season with some more points on the board this weekend.”
National Superstock 1000 teammate Ben Luxton has an excellent track record at Oulton Park, taking a podium at the circuit in the National Superstock 600 class last season. Luxton is looking to please the home crowd and take his first points of the season and put OMG Racing on the Superstock 1000 map.
“I am really looking forward to Oulton Park, it is one of my favourites as well as being my home round. I’m looking forward to the great support over the weekend; I am excited to get underway. It was beneficial to get out to the track before the weekend, as testing gave us a good starting point ahead of the weekend. It was good to get bedded in on riding a 1000cc Suzuki at Oulton Park. My target this weekend is to achieve points and it would be amazing to do that, especially in front of my home crowd.”
Team manager Paul Curran knows Oulton Park very well and is looking to apply that knowledge to give OMG Racing the best chance of points over the weekend.
“I am looking forward to a weekend of consistent weather at Oulton Park. Both riders have completed a successful test at the Cheshire circuit, so we have some good data to start the weekend with and know what we need to work on. I have a good feeling about this weekend and I’m sure Gino and Ben are looking forward to riding in the sun for a change!”
OMG Racing Crew Chief Ray Stringer is no stranger to the Oulton Park Circuit, having ridden the circuit many times throughout his own illustrious British Superbike championship career. Stringer is relishing the team’s prospects over the weekend:
“Without a doubt, Oulton Park is the hardest circuit we have to learn in the UK. After just one day of testing at the venue, Gino posted a lap time that was good enough for a top 15 slot, against professional teams and riders that have been to the track dozens of times before. I am confident that we can add the last few setup changes to the bike, as well as allowing Gino to learn the circuit better, to get OMG Racing securely in the top ten this weekend.”
